When is Placement Week?
Monday, December 8 through Friday, December 12, 2008

How does a Host apply to the Knauss Fellowship Program?
If you are a current and returning Host Office or participated in the 2008 Placement
Week, you can go to the Knauss Host Database online to revise your Host information:
http://www.seagrant.noaa.gov/database/Knauss07/main.aspx

If you are a new Host Office, you must go to the Knauss Host Database online to register as a database user and to provide your Host Office information:
http://www.seagrant.noaa.gov/database/Knauss07/main.aspx

When is the deadline to apply as a host and when are position descriptions due?
Close of Business, Wednesday, November 12, 2008

How are Hosts and Fellows matched, i.e. how does placement work?
Hosts begin the week by presenting a short overview of their office and the fellowship
position to the Finalists (Finalists become Fellows once they have been matched with a Host Office). Finalists then select Host Offices with whom they will interview. Interview sign up sheets will be faxed to the Host Offices and interviews will ensue until the close of business on Thursday, Dec. 11 (Executive Hosts) or late Friday morning, Dec. 12 (Legislative Hosts). Hosts will fill out a ranking sheet of Finalists they have interviewed to the Knauss Program Manager. Those rankings will then be provided to the Finalists on Friday, Dec. 12 by email (6:30 AM for Executive Hosts, 12 PM for Legislative Hosts). Finalists will choose, following rank order, which Host Office they will commit to. A Finalist may only choose one Host Office. Once a Finalist has chosen a Host Office, that Finalist must cross his/her name off of every other list on which they are ranked. The process continues until everyone has selected a Host Office.

Where and when are Host presentations?
Executive: Monday, December 8, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, NOAA Silver Spring complex SSMC3 4725 Conference Center 1315 East West Highway.

Legislative: Tuesday, December 9, 1:00 to 3:30 PM, (location to be announced)

Presentations should last a maximum of 10 minutes (8 min. plus 2 min. for questions).

When does a Host notify the National Sea Grant Office of its available interview dates and times of those interviews?
Close of Business, Monday, November 24, 2008

The interview schedule form can be found at:
Executive: http://www.seagrant.noaa.gov/knauss/knausshostinfo.html
Legislative: http://www.seagrant.noaa.gov/knauss/knausshostinfo.html

How and when will Hosts be notified which Finalists have signed up for interviews, as well as the specific dates and times?
Executive: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 12:00 PM
Legislative: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 5:00 PM

All hosts will be notified by fax.

When are interviews during Placement Week?
Executive: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1:00 PM through Thursday, Dec. 11, 4:00 PM
Legislative: Wednesday, Dec. 10, 9:00 AM through Friday, Dec. 12, 11:00 AM

Interviews take place in the host office. Finalists will be provided locations and directions to host offices.

When and How does a Host notify the National Sea Grant Office of its ranked Finalists?

Once interviews have been completed, each Host Office must put into rank order (one Finalist per rank) each of the Finalists it interviewed. These rankings should be completed on the following forms:

Executive Host Ranking Sheet
Legislative Host Ranking Sheet

Each Host Office must email these rankings to oar.sg.fellows@noaa.gov by the following deadlines:

Executive Hosts: Friday, Dec. 12, 6:30 AM
Legislative Hosts: Friday, Dec. 12, Noon

Failure to email these rankings to the National Sea Grant Office will disqualify a Host Office from consideration to host a Fellow.

When and where are Placement Week Evening Activities?
The evening activities agenda can be found at: TBD- PW Evening Activities (TBD)

When and how will a Host know if it is successful in getting a Fellow?
Each office that is successful will be notified by a phone call from the Fellow directly on
the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. The Knauss Program Manager will notify each office that is not successful on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 12, 2008.

How is the fellowship agreement finalized?
The National Sea Grant College Program has a “Ratification Document” that commits the
Host and the Fellow jointly to the fellowship program. It is signed by both a Host Office representative, the Fellow, and the Knauss Program Manager. Guidance on funds transfer to Sea Grant to support the Fellow will also be provided to Executive Host Offices as part of the Ratification Document.

If a Host is successful in getting a Fellow, when does the fellowship begin?
The fellowship dates are February 2, 2009 through January 29, 2010. The start and end
dates are flexible so as to accommodate the host and fellow’s schedules. Please consult the program manager (Miguel.Lugo@noaa.gov) if you have questions regarding start and end dates.
