Alaska Sea Grant
- Three Alaska Sea Grant publications won awards in the National Association
of Government Communicators Blue Pencil Awards Program. Sea Lions
of the World won first place in the hardcover book category, the 2007
Alaska Coastal Calendar won third place in the calendar category,
and the 2001–2006 Briefing Book took third place in the
annual report category.
- Dorothy Childers, a member of the Alaska Sea Grant Advisory Committee,
was awarded a Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation, for her project "Climate
Change in the Bering Sea." The Pew program annually awards five fellowships
of $150,000 each, to advance solutions to the most pressing ocean problems.
Connecticut Sea Grant
- Extension Director, Tessa L. Getchis, and the University of Connecticut
Department of Extension, received the Northeast Extension Directors’ Award
of Excellence for 2006. She received this honor for her program, “Partnering
to Streamline the Marine Aquaculture Permitting Process.”
Delaware Sea Grant
- Former Sea Grant staff members (and current University of Delaware
employees), David Barczak, Tracey Bryant and Pamela Donnelly, were honored
at the Delaware Press Association's 2007 Communications Contest awards
banquet for communications and education products including, the “Dogfish
Shark Model,” “Horseshoe Crab: A Creature That Crawled Out
of the Past” and “Seafood is Good for You!” brochures
for Delaware Sea Grant.
- Bryant also received one of three Sweepstakes Awards given at the
banquet on the basis of total accumulated awards.
Florida Sea Grant
- Extension agent, Chuck Adams, received the Wachovia Professorship Award
for distinguished service
Georgia Sea Grant/North Carolina Sea Grant and partners
- These two Sea Grant programs and their partners received the Coastal
America Partnership Award for the "Aquatic Invaders" project
(presented by Timothy R.E. Keeney, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oceans
and Atmosphere, U.S. Department of Commerce)
Louisiana Sea Grant
- Extension agents, Albert “Rusty” Gaude,’ Kevin Savoie
and Mark Schexnayder, received the 2006 Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean
Sea Grant Extension Network’s Outstanding Group Achievement Award
for their response and continuing recovery work following Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita.
- Schexnayder also received the 2006 Conservation Educator of the Year
Award in the 43rd Annual Governor’s Conversation Achievement
Recognition Program, conducted by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation.
Michigan Sea Grant
- Michigan Sea Grant received three awards for two educational products:
1) an exhibit on lake sturgeon; and, 2) its Fins, Tails and Scales poster
by the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE), and the National
Association of Government Communicators (NAGC).
Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant
- The program was awarded first place in radio public service announcements
from more than 1,500 entries submitted by Clear Channel Radio stations
for marine debris public service announcement
New Jersey Sea Grant
- The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium (NJMSC) and its New Jersey
Sea Grant College Program won the 2006 Governor’s Environmental
Excellence Award.The award recognizes outstanding
environmental performance, programs and projects in the state. NJMSC
was selected as the winner of the Healthy Ecosystem Award category for
its Habitat Initiative.
North Carolina Sea Grant
- North Carolina Sea Grant’s coastal law, planning and policy specialist,
Walter Clark
received the Old North State Award for “dedication and service
beyond expectation.”
- Clark also received a certificate of appreciation from the North
Carolina Senate, and recognition for his commitment to undergraduate
education by North Carolina State University’s First Year Inquiry
Program.
- The program received two communications awards from the N.C. Association
of Government Information Officers: Coastwatch took first
place for regular publications.
- Communicator, Ann Green won honorable mention for her Coastwatch story
on harbor pilots.

Ohio Sea Grant
- Director Jeff Reuter was appointed to the following:
- ORRAP Education Working Group
- ORRAP Research to Applications Working Group
- NOAA Science Advisory Board Extension, Outreach, and Education Working
Group
- Great Lakes Regional Research Information Network (GLRRIN)
- Ohio Sea Grant Communications earned a first place award from the Association
of Communications Excellence (ACE), an international association for
agricultural communications.
- Stone Laboratory’s promotional 8-page brochure, tri-fold flyer,
and three-part postcard series received a 2007 ACE Gold Award in the
Publishing Direct Mail category.
Pennsylvania Sea Grant
- The program received Coastal Zone awards for work at Presque Isle and
with habitat restoration
Rhode Island Sea Grant

Extension agent, Jen McCann and the Rhode Island Sea Grant/Coastal Resources Center/University of Rhode Island were featured in NOAA/EPA's outstanding case studies of Coastal Community Development (CCD).
Staff efforts led to unanimous passage of the Metro Bay Urban Coastal Greenway Policy Metro Bay Urban Coastal Greenway Policy (UCG).
South Carolina
- Coastal Heritage won two awards from the Society for Technical
Communication for 2006-2007: Best of Show and Distinguished awards.
- Coastal Heritage also won a 2006 Notable State Document
Award from the South
Carolina State Library. Only 10 of these awards are given each year,
and
they “recognize state governmental publications of outstanding
merit and
usefulness to the citizens of South Carolina.”
- Rick Huffman was named winner of the 2006 South Carolina Environmental
Awareness Award for outstanding contributions toward the protection,
conservation and improvement of South Carolina's natural resources.
